How to Apply for Aid

Before You Begin

1. Gather all the necessary information you'll need to apply for financial assistance. You can find a list of the necessary documents on the FAFSA site.
2. Obtain pin number at www.pin.ed.gov .
   • This will serve as your signature when completing the FAFSA.
   • Allow 1-3 days to receive your pin number.

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

• Apply for financial aid www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Allow approximately two weeks for processing.
  • Check status of submitted FAFSA www.fafsa.ed.gov/FPTWWebApp/follow003.htm.
  • Print copies of all pages for your own records.
• Print confirmation or Student Aid Report (SAR) at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/studentaccess.jsp. 
• Apply for a student loan (optional).

Renewing Your Financial Aid

• You must complete a FAFSA each year.  The money you receive is not automatically renewable.
• You should apply for financial assistance, for the upcoming school year, as soon as you have filed your income taxes from the previous year. 
  • If you will be attending the fall & spring semesters, the application deadline is June 1.
  • If you will be attending the spring semester only, the application deadline is November 1.
• Students who do not have a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent (e.g., GED), or do not meet the home school requirements, and who first enroll in a program of study after July 1, 2012 will not be eligible to receive Title IV student aid.
  
  
• High school students are not eligible for financial assistance.
