Staff Training and Education Program (STEP)

About the Program

SCC supports the continuing education of its employees by providing a variety of in-house courses, and education opportunities as well as encouraging lifelong learning. To receive credit for lifelong credits, complete a Training Completion Form and turn in to HR. Forms are located on the intranet.

Lifelong Learning credits will be given to faculty and staff for any of the following completed below:

• Online STEP classes
• College courses taken (credit & non-credit)
• Professional development / conferences & seminars attended or presented
• External training programs attended
• Educational sessions held on our campus, such as those during Faculty In-Service, Democracy Days, International Education Week, Multicultural programs, and Veteran’s Week programs
• Approved department-provided training
• All-College Day, town halls, and other similar college update meetings

Rewards

Employees may receive rewards for completion of training activities. The awards are the college's way of thanking you for taking the time to increase valuable skills and/or acquire new knowledge.

How Are Courses Developed?

Courses are selected for inclusion in the training calendar based on:

• Training requirements listed on your Development Opportunities form that is turned in with your annual job evaluation.
• Performance Horizon Survey results
• Strategic Organizational Objectives, Critical Issues and Goals identified in the College Plan

SCC also partners with area agencies EDC Alliance and PAS (employee assistance program) to offer courses that align with our training needs and initiatives.
