Duties:

St. Charles Community College is seeking a Public Relations Coordinator to contribute to creative team in Marketing and Communications as a writer and strategist. Work will involve promotions and publications, public and media relations, marketing strategy, and other assigned writing and collaborative projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and write news and feature stories and distribute them to appropriate media outlets.
  • Write copy for promotional publications such as the Annual Report, viewbook, e-magazine, etc.
  • Develop good relationships with area news media and maintain consistent contact with them by generating and following up on story leads.
  • Work with internal clients to develop marketing strategies that maximize advertising and publicity opportunities to the target market(s).
  • Complete special large-scale projects assigned by the Vice President (i.e. crisis communications plan, editorial style guides, media training, experts guide, etc.)
  • Assist in collaboration of communication projects such as advertising or promotional campaigns.
  • Understand and apply the concept of message and image “branding” for the College-at-large as well as with individual clients/areas.
  • Contributor to the College’s social media presence, including strategy, content and off-hours monitoring.
  • Supervisor Welcome Center staff and activities.
  • Work on special events and other College activities as assigned, including serving on College committees (including the College race event).
  • Write student/alum/faculty/staff/community testimonials, award nominations and speeches.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related discipline and three or more years of related experience in writing for the media are required. The Public Relations Coordinator should be proficient in the use of Associated Press Stylebook for writing. Must have excellent written and oral communications skills and basic concept of graphic design principles. Must have ability to work well under pressure with constant deadlines, and ability to work both independently and under supervision.
