Objectives

Explain the convergence of TV, radio, telephony, and computer networks
Differentiate between distance vector protocols and link state protocols
Describe hardware and software security issues and systems
Define the different wireless protocols

Portfolio

Part 1: Find an article on Voice over IP (VoIP). Write one paragraph explaining why is this such an important issue today. Be sure to cite your reference.

Part 2: Find an article on distance vector protocols (such as OSPF) and an article on link state protocols (such as BGP). Write a short paper about how each works. Be sure to cite your references.

Part 3: Find an article about firewalls and another about intrusion detection systems. Write a short paper on how these two work together to protect a network. Be sure to cite your references.

Part 4: Find articles about Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Bluetooth, Shared Wireless Access Protocol (SWAP), and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). Write a short paper on how these are all parts of the world’s conversion to wireless connectivity. Be sure to cite your references.

Each part will be a document on its own. These four documents should be put into a folder labeled “Telecommunications Capstone Assessment Project” and submitted electronically.
