CPT 246 Computer Security
Final Exam Project
You have been
hired by an attorney to help her secure her computers. Her practice has
three associates and two full time secretaries, each with their own
networked PC. She has hired you to help her devise a simple backup and
recovery plan. Her practice is located in San Diego, California. Before
attempting to build a plan, the first thing you should do is probably
visit the facility. What information should you gather from the site?
In helping her devise a plan, answer each of the following questions;
if you cannot answer a question adequately, prepare counter-questions
to discuss with your client:
- What is the
ultimate goal or primary purpose of the project? Is is to have a fully
operational backup facility within 24 hours? A partially operational
facility? What are your primary threats?
- Will you
recommend a hot backup site, a warm backup site, or a cold backup site?
Will the site be on-site or off-site? If off-site, where will the site
be hosted? Why did you make these choices?
- How much data
are you preparing for? How does this affect the backup medium?
- How will you
get the data from the primary site to the backup site? Is encryption
necessary? Why or why not?
- How often
will backups be run, how will they be verified, and for how long will
they be stored?
- What is the
estimated cost of the project you are proposing? Use Web resources to
make the estimate.
This report should be
formal. It should look good. It should be accurate
grammatically.
