Students with special needs:

We all have various channels through which we learn best. SCC has an Office of Accessibility Services that guides, counsels, and assists students with disabilities. It is located in Room 133 of the Student Center. It is your responsibility (as the student) to discuss with the instructor during the first week of class anything needed to help you succeed. If you have special needs, please call Pam Bova at 636.922.8247 in the Office of Accessibility Services so that your eligibility for services can be determined.

SCC also offers mental health counseling.  If you need help with depression, anger, domestic violence, stress, addiction, eating disorder, or anxiety, please contact Mary Hall at 636.288.6533.  Her office is located at ADM 1204.

Attendance Policy

As an independent study course, no formal class attendance is required. This course is conducted entirely within WebCT, so all of your work is conducted online.  Completing work on time is imperative. While independent study courses allow for a more flexible due date schedule, students learn much more efficiently by staying as close to the tentative time table as possible.

All written work

Chapter Questions / Group Exercises / Article Summaries / Tests

All written work for this class must be done using proper grammar and punctuation.  Writing skills are crucial to your future success, and these types of assignments are one way to practice those skills.  Regardless of your personal knowledge of any subject, if you cannot write about it using good writing skills, then no one else can know how much you know about it.

Up to 15% of your assignment grade could be lost if proper writing skills are not demonstrated. If you need writing skills helps, SCC provides an excellent resource for you.  Contact the ACE Center or me if you require assistance in this area.

Chapter Review Questions:

Write out complete answers to each question in the "Questions" section at the back of each chapter.  Be sure your answer includes enough of the question posed so that I don't have to look at the question in the book to know which one you're answering.   Be sure to answer all parts of each question, too.

Submit this work via WebCT.

Article Summaries

The first half of the semester, you need to find three (3) articles on E-Commerce, and write a summary of each article. Each summary is to be 1/2-1 page long, double spaced, size 10-12 Times New Roman or Arial. On the page, put your name, then the title of the article, then the URL where you found the article; then begin your summary.

Your summary is to be posted on the Discussion Board portion of WebCT.

The second half of the semester, you will read and comment on the summaries of three (3) other students.  Your comments should include whether you agree or disagree with the topic of the summary, did you find any article just like it (or completely different from it), as well as what you personally think of your classmate's written summary (was it well written?  clear?  confusing?).

Your comments will also be posted to the Discussion Board.

This portion of the course will bring you up to date on current topics in E-Commerce.

Existing Web Site Review

You must find an e-commerce web site to follow throughout the semester.  You will be looking at it to see how often changes occur on the site (home page and closely related pages), commenting on what the changes are, and whether you like the changes or not.  Specific questions that you'll be answering can be found on the assignments page in WebCT.

Submit this work via WebCT.

New Web Site You Are Designing

You will be designing an e-commerce web site for a fictitious customer.   You will find the questions to be answered (at five intervals during the semester) on the assignments page in WebCT.

Submit this work via WebCT.

Exams

As there are no exams in this course, there is no need to make up any missed exams.

Final Project

After completing all other assignments, you are to write a short formal report about the web site you've been reviewing all semester. The report should include the following: (by the time you get here, most of your work should already be done!)
