Attendance Policy

Each student is expected to attend all classes.  The fact that some of the course is group activity makes attendance at class even more important.  If absence is unavoidable, the student is expected to have the textbook material read and any class assignments completed before returning to the next schedule class.  Failure to do this will cause the inability to keep up with the class material being discussed.

DO NOT call or e-mail the teacher to find out what we covered in a class that you missed.  This information should be obtained from the course timetable and/or a classmate.

Course Requirements

Students with special needs:

We all have various channels through which we learn best. SCC has an Office of Accessibility Services that guides, counsels, and assists students with disabilities. It is located in Room 1206 of the Administration Building. It is your responsibility (as the student) to discuss with the instructor during the first week of class anything needed to help you succeed. If you have special needs, please call Pam Bova (636.922.8247) in the Office of Accessibility Services so that your eligibility for services can be determined.

All written work

Chapter Questions / Group Exercises / Tests

All written work for this class must be done using proper grammar and punctuation.  Writing skills are crucial to your future success, and these types of assignments are one way to practice those skills.  Regardless of your personal knowledge of any subject, if you cannot write about it using good writing skills, then no one else can know how much you know about it.

Up to 15% of your assignment grade could be lost if proper writing skills are not demonstrated. If you need writing skills helps, SCC provides an excellent resource for you.  Contact the ACE Center or me if you require assistance in this area.

Chapter Review Questions:

Write out complete answers to each review question in the text.  Be sure your answer includes enough of the question posed so that I don't have to look at the question in the book to know which one you're answering.

Group Exercises:

Each week, group exercises will be assigned in class.  As a group, you will submit only one answer sheet.  Some exercises will involve one-sentence answers, others will require more.  All proper grammar applies to either type of assignment.  Group assignments cannot be made up, but missing one will not affect your grade (because the lowest grades is thrown out anyway).

Exams

Each week, the first 20 minutes will be a test over the material covered in the previous week.  For each test, you can bring in one sheet of paper with whatever notes you think you’ll need—you can also use your Chapter Review homework.  Each test will include some True/False questions, some Multiple Choice questions, and one or two short answer questions.  Proper grammar rules will apply to the short answer questions.   The Final Exam will be taken from these exams.  These tests cannot be made up.  If you miss one, it will not directly affect your grade (because your lowest grade is thrown out anyway).
