In the study of the Kilns, C.S. Lewis' house in Oxford
Reading the Narnia Tales, Which were written in this room
Hi! I'm Joyce Lindstrom, and I am a Professor in the Math Department and Coordinator of the Education Program at SCC. I joined SCC in 1988, the second year of the school's existence.
I have taught math for over 40 years, and I was hired as a math teacher at SCC. Because I was working on my doctor's degree in Education at the time, the dean asked if I would like to write a proposal to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to begin an Education Program at SCC. I agreed, and now we have over 500 Education majors at SCC. Our students do very well when they transfer to various four-year institutions to complete their degree and certificate requirements. In our most recent survey of former Education students, 100% rated the SCC Education Program as excellent or good.
Author C.S. Lewis is my mentor and model, and I have participated in a number of events sponsored by the C.S. Lewis Foundation, including Oxbridge, a triennial conference held on the campuses of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. My husband and I also lived for a week at the Kilns, Lewis' home near Oxford, while we participated in a study seminar.
I am married to Roger Lindstrom, and we have three grown children and twelve grandchildren. I love to read and to walk through Creve Coeur Park, which is close to our home. I teach a weekly Women's Bible Study for my church.
