I am the coordinator of the Eduation Program at SCC.  I am responsible to make certain that the SCC Education Program meets the standards prescribed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).  I work with colleagues on other community college campuses and represent SCC at the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE), both the parent organization and the Community College Division.  I meet with representatives of four-year schools to facilitate the transfer of SCC Education courses.

In collaboration with community college teacher educators throughout Missouri, I recently helped design the Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree.  This transfer degree should make it easier for students to transfer to four-year institutions to complete degree and certificate requirements.  The AAT was first offered at SCC during the fall 2007 semester.  Graduates will complete a minimum of 62 credit hours (42 hours of General Education, 12 hours of Professional Education, 8 hours of electives).

SCC as an institution is accredited by the North Central Association.  In addition, the Education Program is accredited by DESE.  This accreditation process requires that each AAT graduate prepare a portfolio containing artifacts addressing the MoSTEP Standards, Mid- preparation Benchmarks.   The K-12 Show-Me Standards, also from the State Board of Education, guide K-12 curriculum decisions throughout the state.
