The Write Start with Readings: Book II. Paragraphs to Essays
Course Description:
This course provides directed practice in developing college level reading and composition skills, emphasizing comprehension skills, context clues, and dictionary use. Students will be encouraged to read, discuss, and write about short stories, essays and articles. Basic grammar and composition skills, including sentence, paragraph and essay structure will be practiced.
Objectives: Students will be able to:
Read and comprehend short stories, essays, and magazine articles.
Analyze, compare, and apply central themes from reading
assignments to life experiences, and other reading
selections.
Demonstrate ability to use correct sentence, paragraph
and essay form.
Practice speaking, listening, and writing skills.
Meet requirements for placement ESL 102 or ENG 101.
Grading: Your grades will be based on the following assignments. You will also receive credit for in-class activities and discussion; therefore, outside preparation is not only essential for your grade, but for the success of the entire class. In order to receive credit for late assignments, you must make advance arrangements with the instructor. All major assignments must be turned in order to pass the course.
