Bridgeway Counseling Services

Sexual Assault Center – Campus Prevention, Education, and Awareness Program

Monday 3/5/07 and Wednesday 3/7/07
Noon–1 p.m.

College students participating in the program will:

  1. Increase their awareness of sexual assault and date rape
  2. Discover the difference between the myths and facts about rape and sexual assault in our society
  3. Learn how alcohol impacts the risk of sexual assault
  4. Learn what they can do to stay safe and reduce their risk of sexual assault
  5. Learn how men are also effected by sexual assault
  6. Find out where to get support on and off campus
  7. Find out how male and female college students can work together to help end sexual and dating violence

Presentation Highlights:

  1. Facilitated by highly trained community educators
  2. Educational packets will be distributed to each participant
  3. Presentations are customized to meet the specific needs of each group/organization
  4. Presentation are appropriate for male and female audiences
  5. The presentation is FREE!

Content of presentations will also enhance course curriculum in classes such as human behavior, psychology, sociology, social work, and human services.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • College students are at high risk for sexual assault.  They are one of the most vulnerable age groups for sexual assault
  • 1 in 5 young women experiences rape during college
  • In 80-90 % of college rapes, the victim knows the assailant
  • Every 2 to 3 minutes a woman is raped in the U.S.
  • More than 1 in 3 of female high school and college students reported some violence in a dating relationship
  • About 50% of dating women experience sexual, physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from dating partners
  • Men are also victims of sexual assault and effected in many ways by the presence of sexual assault in our society
