Nursing Program Admission Requirements


Admission to the nursing program is on a selective basis. Because of the academic demands of a curriculum that prepares graduates to take a national licensing examination and to perform safe nursing care with thoughtful application of nursing theory in clinical situations, applicants must meet certain academic standards for admission.

Students must make an appointment (636-922-8246) with a SCC career/technical counselor to plan course work and to apply for the nursing program. Students are eligible to enroll in the nursing courses only after the following requirements have been met:

  1. Meet all of the college admissions requirements. (see SCC Catalog).
  2. Submit OFFICAL high school transcript, indicating graduation with a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.     (Minimum G.E.D. score of 260).  High School students will be conditionally admitted if they meet all requirements for admission; GPA, ACT, Passing score on Dosage Calculation test, until receiving an official GPA and transcript at the time of graduation.
  3. Submit previous OFFICIAL college transcripts to college registrar (hand-carried transcripts not accepted).  If you have already taken college courses that you want to count towards your degree at SCC, complete a "Request for Credit Evaluation" form and submit to the college registrar. 
  4. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on high school transcript, or cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on at least 12 credit hours of current college course work.  Applicants with a previous college degree must have cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on the last 30 credit hours of college course work.
  5. ACT Test Scores-minimum composite score of 20.  Test must have been taken within last five years.  ACT test requirement may be waived for applicants who have previously earned an associate or bachelor's college degree.  Students with an ACT score of 18-19 may request that the Nursing Admissions Committee evaluate their score on an individual basis.  The Nursing Appeals form may be obtained from the counseling office.
  6. Completion of SCC Assessment Tests.  Students must test into the level of at least English Composition I and Intermediate Algebra or pass Developmental Writing II an/or Beginning Algebra before application will be initiated.
  7. Pass Dosage Calculations Test with a score of 90% or above. Test results remain valid for one year only (July1-June 30).  The dosage calculation test can only be taken three times in a year.
  8. Admission requirements must be met and all documents submitted no later than one-month prior to the first day of class for the fall semester.  (Example: July 15 for fall semester start date of Aug. 15).  Eligible students are placed in a class on a first-come, first-served basis.
