Bridge Programs for LPNs


St. CharlesCommunity College, Department of Nursing supports the concept of articulation and has formulated a plan whereby Licensed Practical Nurses may request advanced standing in the Associate Degree Nursing Program offered by the College. LPN’s may “BRIDGE” into the A.D.N. program by successfully completing the admission requirements as outlined below.

Admission Requirements to be eligible for enrollment in the Bridge Option:

  1. Schedule an appointment and meet with an SCC Career Technical Counselor 636-922-8246, Room 1204, AdministrationBuilding, to begin the application process.
  2. Must have a current undisciplined LPN license for the state of Missouri, and two years of recent clinical experience, or be a new LPN graduate.  Must have IV certification.
  3. Take the ACT college entry exam.  A minimum passing score of 20 must be met for admission.
  4. Pass the Dosage Calculation Test with a score of 90% or above.  The Dosage Calculation Test can be taken only three times in one year.  Test results remain valid for one year (See SCC Web site).
  5. Must have a current cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 point scale.
  6. Must submit official college transcripts (hand carried not accepted) if college courses will be counted toward the degree requirements.
  7. Complete SCC Assessment Tests (if no previous college credit classes in Math or English).  Must test into ENG 101 and MAT 121 OR take and pass ENG 096, and MAT 098/120 to initiate application process.
  8. Completion of the prerequisite for NUR 103, NUR 104.  Applicants must have completed English Composition I and Psychology 101 with a grade of “C” or better.  Introduction to Chemistry and Microbiology must be taken prior to entering NUR 104.  Must maintain a “C” in all required science course work.
  9. Admission requirements must be met and all documents submitted no later than November 15, for enrollment in the January semester Nursing Bridge Program.  Please note there are a limited number of openings, and eligible students are placed in the Nursing Bridge Program on a first come, first served basis.
NOTES:

All bridge students are required to enroll in and successfully complete NUR 104 and NUR 105 prior to entering NUR 253.  After successful completion of NUR 104, the student will be granted credit for NUR 103.

  • It is required that all science courses be taken within the last five (5) years.
  • Admission of Bridge student is subject to space availability in required nursing courses.
  • All Bridge students must take NUR 104, NUR 105, NUR 253, and NUR 254.  These cannot be challenged.
  • Due to the rapidly expanding body of knowledge in nursing, credits for NUR 103 granted through completion of NUR 104, must be revalidated if older than three years.

It is the student's responsibility to supply documentation that requirements are met, and to maintain awareness of deadlines, academic status, course requirements, etc.
