Calculations Class
(CDV 600)
The Dosage Calculations class prepares students to take the Dosage Calculations test required as part of the admission criteria for SCC nursing programs. The class is also an excellent review for the nurse who wishes to refresh their calculation skills.
Subjects covered include:
- Systems of measurement including metric and apothecary.
- Converting between the two systems is also covered.
- Calculating drug dosages utilizing ratio-proportion, formula, and dimensional analysis.
- Calculation of oral and parenteral medications including reconstitution of powdered medications.
- Pediatric dosage calculation.
- Basic IV flow rates and infusion time for IV Therapy.
Course Requirements:
Students are expected to be proficient in basic math including addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, percentages, and Roman numerals prior to the first class.
Fees for this course are non-refundable.

The textbook is required and available in the bookstore.
