Certified
Nurse Assistant
(CNA 100-40,41,42,43)
This course provides the classroom instruction necessary for
employment as a Certified Nurse Assistant in Missouri. The course
teaches basic nursing skills, resident rights, safety, communication
techniques, and infection control. The CNA is eligible for
employment in nursing homes, hospitals, and doctor's offices.
Upon completion of the course, a written and clinical final exam
must be taken and passed with an 80% or better score to achieve
certification. The final exam may be taken three times.
Prerequisites:
The State of Missouri requires students to be:
- At least 17 years of age
- Family Care Safety Registry Report
- Free from tuberculosis (a negative TB test is required)
Other Requirements:
- Ability to communicate in English (may sign up for English
as a Second Language (ESL) offered at SCC free of charge)
- Ability to read at the eighth grade level
Schedule:
The class is an open-entry/open-exit format on a 12-week
cycle. Students may enter at any point and exit the class when they
have completed all 12 units.
Classes are held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, or Friday excluding holidays.

Clinical Hours:
100 hours of clinical experience must be completed prior to
the final exam. Students employed in a nursing home MAY be
able to use their work hours for credit depending on the licensure
status of the employer. Students who are not employed will
be placed in an unpaid clinical setting.
Tuition:
$345, includes the fee to adminster the final exam once.
Other:
Textbook required and available in the bookstore.
Some
facilities will provide a book through direct ordering.
