Certified Nurse Assistant
(CNA 100)

This Department of Health and Senior Services approved course provides the classroom instruction necessary for employment as a Certified Nurse Assistant in Missouri. The course teaches basic nursing skills, resident rights, safety, communication techniques and infection control. The CNA is eligible for employment in nursing homes, hospitals, home care and doctor's offices.

The class is an open-entry/open-exit format on an 8-week or 12-week cycle. Students may enter at any point and exit the class when they have completed all of the required units.

Upon completion of the course, a written and clinical final exam must be taken and passed with an 80% or better score to achieve certification. The final exam may be taken up to three times within 90 days. 

Course Requirements:

Students must:

• Be at least 17 years of age.
• Provide an acceptable Family Care Safety Registry background screening.
• Be free from tuberculosis (a negative 2-step TB test is required).
• Be able to communicate effectively in English. Student may sign up for English as a Second Language (ESL) offered at SCC free of charge.  
• Able to read at the eighth grade level.
• Complete a minimum of 75 hours of classroom preparation and demonstration; understanding of the curriculum as documented by a score at least 80% on three classroom exams.

Tuition and Schedule:

Fees for this course are non-refundable.

Note: Prior to the final exam, 100 hours of clinical experience must be completed.  Students employed in a nursing home MAY be able to use their work hours for credit depending on the licensure status of the employer.  Students who are not employed will need to enroll in CNA 102-40 to complete their course requirements.
