How Do I Prepare for Math Classes?

All first-time freshmen are encouraged to take the ACT test and forward their scores to the Admissions Office. ACT test scores will be used primarily for institutional research, academic advising, and assessment appeals.

All first-time freshmen and transfer students who have not yet obtained a grade of "C" or better in a transfer math course are required to take the SCC Mathematics Placement Test before enrolling in a math class. The placement test is used to ensure college readiness and to place students into a math class that corresponds to their current level of mathematics skills.

You should take as many high school math classes as possible and review your basic math skills prior to coming to SCC to take the Math Placement Test. When you come to campus for placement testing, give yourself plenty of time to make your best effort.

Why Should I Pursue an Associate of Arts Degree With a Math Emphasis?

Many students plan to transfer to another institution after SCC. With proper planning, the Associate of Arts degree will prepare you for general transfer to most other colleges or universities nationwide.
