Introduction to Lean Manufacturing
President's Certificate
Participants who complete all six modules of the Introduction
to Lean Manufacturing will be awarded the President's Certificate.
This
award signifies that participants have dedicated themselves to
extensive training on this vital topic that will promote smarter
business
practices and an improved bottom line.
| MODULE
ONE:The Basics of Lean Manufacturing and Waste Elimination;
Structuring the Lean Implementation; Performance Measures
for the Lean Enterprise |
Instructor:
John Jennings |
| A basic introduction to the concept of waste
elimination and lean manufacturing. The basic lean tools and
their use will be discussed. Preparing the organization for
the lean manufacturing implementation, and selection of appropriate
metrics will be covered. |
| CDV 830-80 |
Length: 8 hours, .8 CEUs |
Fee: $120 |
| Time: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. |
Date:May 1 |
Location: SSB 1203 |
| MODULE
TWO: Using Value Stream Mapping to Design the Lean System |
Instructor: John Jennings |
The basic process of value stream mapping
will be introduced through the use of a case study. Participants
will learn how to document the current state and how to identify
and quantify waste in the current state. Participants learn
to apply lean principles to identify the improvements that
will be made during the lean implementation, and what their
impact will be.
Participants will be formed into teams with each team expected
to create a Value Stream Map as a class project. They will
be expected to create a current state map, a future state map
and to create an implementation plan. |
| CDV 831-80 |
Length: 8 hours, .8 CEUs |
Fee: $120 |
| Time: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. |
Date:May 8 |
Location: PDR, SC |
MODULE
THREE:
“Kaizen”, 5S, & Visual Control Concepts |
Instructor: John Jennings |
| Participants will learn to create an implementation
plan from the Value Stream Map. Teams will present to the class
the project they have selected for Value Stream Mapping. Participants
will be introduced to the role of the kaizen facilitator. The
basics of "5S" and visual controls will be introduced. |
| CDV 832-80 |
Length: 16 hours, 1.6 CEUs |
Fee: $240 |
| Time: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. |
Date: May 15 & 16 |
Location:
SC 209 |
| MODULE
FOUR: Cellular Flow Concepts |
Instructor: John Jennings |
| Participants will be introduced to the concepts
of one piece flow in this 1½ day course. The
structure of a Cellular Kaizen event will be introduced. Participants
will learn how to implement one-piece flow and implement manufacturing
cells. The basics of implementing standard work will be introduced. |
| CDV 833-80 |
Length: 12 hours, 1.2 CEUs |
Fee: $180 |
| Time: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. |
Date: May 22 and |
Location: PDR, SC |
| Time: 8 a.m.-noon |
Date: May 23 |
Location: PDR, SC |
| MODULE
FIVE: Pull/Kan Ban Concepts |
Instructor: John Jennings |
Participants will be introduced to pull concepts.
The difference between "pull" and "push" will
be demonstrated. Participants will learn how to determine
when to use Kanban, and how to implement it.
Participants will be evaluated to determine how well they
understand of the concepts presented in modules 1-5. |
| CDV 834-80 |
Length: 8 hours, .8 CEUs |
