What Is the Purpose of GED
Classes?
FREE classes provide preparation for the GED Tests as well as
basic instruction in reading, writing and math. The following
methods
of
instruction are provided:
- Individual diagnostic evaluation of skills
- Classroom lessons
- One-on-one tutoring assistance
- Computer-aided instruction
- Skill-building exercises
- Official GED practice tests
- GED online instruction
Who Is Eligible to Attend Class?
Students who are 16 years old and have dropped out of school prior
to August 28, 2009, must provide:
- A letter from the school that includes the date the student dropped
out.
Students who are 16 years old and have dropped out of school on
August 28, 2009, or later must provide two documents:
- A letter from the school that includes the date the student dropped
out.
- A transcript or other official verification from the school
that the student has successfully completed 16 credit
hours of high school work.
Free GED Preparation
On-Site Classes
Enrollment for free GED
classes is scheduled monthly at several locations in a four-county
area. Students are given an initial assessment test to determine
GED
Test
readiness. This assessment provides information for an
individual learning plan. Students work at their own pace.
Students must commit themselves to attend two full class meetings
per week for at least one month of classroom instruction.
Online Classes
To prepare for the GED Tests online, log-on to http://www.gedonlineclass.com/
Students working online are required to complete an initial
skills assessment in a physical GED preparation classroom. Following
this assessment, students work online. They must return to the
physical classroom for post-testing when appropriate. The GED Tests
are not available online.
Fast-Track Test
Preparation
These free classes are designed to offer assistance to individuals
with strong reading, writing and math skills who are ready to
take
the GED Tests.
The classes offer an overview of the GED tests and an opportunity
to take an official GED practice test. Each session consists
of five 3-hour class meetings. Registration

Students qualifying for Fast-Track classes will work exclusively
on GED test preparation. Students will be assisted with the
following as needed:
- GED test application
- Calculator practice
- Brief subject area review at the GED level of instruction
- GED official practice test
- GED demographics form
Classes meet from 6-9 p.m. Students MUST be present
at the start of the first class.

How to Apply for the GED
Tests
- Prepare for the GED (General Educational Development)
Tests. For
information about free GED preparation classes in Lincoln, Pike,
St. Charles and Warren counties, call 636-922-8411 or go to
our GED
Class Schedule page. Classroom instructors will assist with
the testing application and registration process.
- If you are ready to take the GED Tests and
are not attending GED preparation classes, call 636-922-8629
or 636-922-8411 to
request an informational packet that includes a test application.
- When you receive your Missouri Testing Authorization Form (1-2
weeks after submitting your testing application), call 636-922-8629
or 636-922-8411 to request a second informational packet that
includes a demographics form and instructions for registering
to take the GED Tests.
YOU MUST BE REGISTERED TO TAKE THE GED TEST.
- Take your GED Tests on your assigned date. The GED Tests are
given monthly at St. Charles Community College. The test begins
at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. For GED Test dates, go to GED
Testing.
- Get a good night's sleep before your testing day.
- Eat a healthy breakfast before taking the tests.
- Bring a healthy lunch and/or snack to eat during your testing
breaks.

Ceremony
Outstanding students are recognized at an annual Student

GED
Scholarships
GED recipients who score at least 2700 on the GED Tests and
attend at least 12 hours of St. Charles Community College-sponsored
GED preparation classes (GED/ESL
Class Schedules) are eligible to apply for a $500 scholarship to
St. Charles Community College. For more information, speak with the
