LEARN TO PLAY MUSIC AT SCC

Celloist

Our youth are never too young – or too old – to enjoy music. Thanks to SCC’s Applied Music Department and the St. Charles Community College Department of Continuing Education, the same can be said about
learning to make music, too.

The two departments have joined to form the SCC Music Preparatory Academy, a non-credit, private eight-week instruction program in piano, voice, brass, string, woodwind, and guitar instruments for youths ages 6-18.
Music instruction is available for students younger than age 6, thanks to the nationally recognized GuitaristSuzuki violin program, which is offered for children as young as 3 years old.

LEARN FROM THE PROS

At St. Charles Community College, you’ll receive the highest quality musical education. Our instructors hold master’s or doctoral degrees, have extensive teaching experience, and are active performers locally, nationally, and internationally.

Individual lessons are offered days, evenings, and Saturdays in voice, piano, guitar, and all orchestral instruments at all levels, from beginners through advanced.

Piano lessons Students may receive one 30-minute lesson each week; or, for more advanced students, 60-minute lessons once a week are also available.

CONVENIENCE IS KEY

Lesson day and time is scheduled on an individual basis at the convenience of the student and teacher.

Private lessons are offered in eight-week sessions for students middle-school age to adults.

Notice of 24 hours is required for lesson cancellations.

SUZUKI VIOLIN CLASSES

Violinist

LEARN MUSIC THE SUZUKI WAY

Suzuki is a distinct method of string instruction for children ages 3 years old and older where they learn by listening, imitating, and watching others.

Music education that follows the Suzuki method is unique because:

  • Suzuki educators believe every child can learn to play music.
  • Talent and ability is a product of a healthy environment.
  • Every child can learn music in the same way that they learn to speak their native language, by imitating the others in their life that influence them.

Parents are the most influential people in their child’s life, making parental support key in music education. A parent’s healthy involvement nurtures the talent and ability in every child. Parents are required to attend two weekly lessons with their children, one individual lesson and one group lesson.
