A+
Computer Repair & Maintenance
St. Charles Community College's A+ Computer Repair and Maintenance program consists of one class (CPT 107). This class will help to prepare you for the A+ certification. You'll learn how to repair, build, and configure PCs.
Training is comprised of one five-hour class per week for one semester for evening classes. Day classes meet either once or twice per week for a total of five hours. Evening classes meet from 5:30-10 p.m. once per week. The class is worth five credit hours. Summer sessions meet twice as often.
Prerequisite classes are required. However, we accept transfer credits, work experience, or certain industry certifications in lieu of the prerequisite classes. Please contact Jim Elkins by email at jelkins@stchas.edu or by phone at 636-922-8207 to set up an appointment to learn more about this class or to ask for a waiver of prerequisites. Waivers are frequently granted based on a student’s experience or knowledge. Also, click on How To Register for more information.
Open enrollment for the A+ program occurs at the beginning of each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer) on a first-come, first-serve basis. Summer sessions meet more often in a condensed format over an eight-week period.
This class is highly recommended for anyone wishing to learn more about computer hardware and maintenance. It is also highly recommended for any student in any of the networking programs that does not already know how to take a computer apart and repair it.
Classes consist of lecture and hands-on lab exercises. You will take computers apart in class, so you will be required to purchase a computer toolkit in addition to a textbook and lab manual from the bookstore. The class number is CPT 107: A+ (Computer Repair and Maintenance).
