Additional Requirements to earn the AAT degree:

  • #EDU 210, 211, 220, and 240 are required to earn an AAT degree
  • Students must complete a mid-preparation portfolio. To complete this requirement, take EDU 290.
  • A “C” or better is required in any EDU course.
  • Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.5. (Some 4-year institutions require higher.)
  • Students must achieve a minimum score of 235 on each section of the C-BASE. (Some 4-years require higher.)
  • Students enrolled in EDU 210 or EDU 211 will be required on first day of class to give permission for SCC to request a background check. Students who have been convicted of a felony will not be allowed to observe/participate in P-12 schools and must appeal to the Missouri State Board of Education before completing a Teacher Education program.

* Education Electives/Teaching Field Requirements (It is essential that you check with your transfer college for transferable courses for your teaching field):

  • COL 101 Orientation to College
  • EDU 250 Education of Exceptional Learners
  • MAT 121 Intermediate Algebra
  • Courses in teaching field

The Missouri public 4-year institutions of higher education, and some private 4-year institutions, have agreed to accept the AAT as equivalent to their first two years of teacher education. Thus, a student who completes an AAT at SCC should have no more credit hours to complete during the last two years than a native 4-year student. Because course content is organized in different configurations at different institutions, you may repeat some content areas, but not credit hours.

Students who do not complete the AAT will transfer course by course; individual institutions have agreed to transfer specific courses but have not guaranteed that students will have no more credits to complete than their native students. Most transfer institutions require an A.C.T. score of at least 20 to be accepted into the teacher education program. It should be taken no later than 2 semesters prior to transferring into a teacher education program.

See the list of institutions that have agreed to accept the AAT degree as of August 8, 2007.
