The Music Man - Shipoopi

The Music Department, in cooperation with the Theater Department) offers courses in Music Theater History, Music Theater Appreciation (for those students needing to fulfill their humanities requirements) and a Music Theater Workshop each semester.

During the fall semester students enrolled in the history or appreciation course will study the origins of musical theater in America up through Rodgers' and Hammerstein's groundbreaking musical Oklahoma. Fall workshop students will prepare and present musical selections from the period being studied and apply acting styles to each performance.

Huck & Jim - Big River

During the spring semester students will begin the semester with Rodgers' and Hammerstein's shows through the musicals of today. Workshop students will prepare songs from those eras applying acting styles appropriate for each.

Forum - Everybody ought to have a maid

Each summer the music department in cooperation with the Center Stage Theater at SCC presents a large scale production. Past shows have included State Fair, The Mikado, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Big River,The Music Man and Anything Goes. Closing out the 2006-2007 season will be the warm, romantic, Jerry Bock musical, She Loves Me. Students working on the musicals may enroll and receive instrumental, vocal, theater or dance credit through their involvement.
