The goal of the Reading Program is to provide students with the skills to read and understand college-level materials as well as to develop a lifelong enjoyment of reading for information and entertainment.

The Reading Program consists of eleven separate reading classes focused on specific reading needs of the diverse population of St. Charles Community College students.

The Reading Program offers five individual study classes: two focused on spelling and three classes in vocabulary. The three core reading classes included in the program are designed to increase reading skills and teach critical thinking abilities.

  • Two reading classes are offered for beginning and more advanced English as a Second Language students.
  • One reading course, Reading Across the Disciplines, is focused on reading skills needed to improve students' comprehension of college level textbooks.
