Event experience Title: Jefferson National Expansion Memorial – Museum of Westward Expansion Tour

Anticipated Learning Outcome

After reviewing the exhibits students should have a better understanding of the role of St. Louis/Missouri on the history of the United States.

Guidelines for accomplishment of event

Students will visit the Museum of Westward Expansion and make a reflective journal entry about their impressions of the exhibits and how those exhibits portray the impact of the Lewis and Clark Expedition on the state of Missouri as well as the United States.

Upon completing this tour you should be able to . . .

  1. Discuss the significance of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and how it relates to the historical past
  2. Identify four or more member of the permanent company in the Corps of Discovery
  3. Describe the role played by Thomas Jefferson in the Lewis and Clark Expedition
  4. Describe the subsequent exploration/settlement of the West following Lewis and Clark
  5. Discuss the reasons for building the Arch
