Event experience Title: Spring Event: Habitat for Humanity Project

Anticipated Learning Outcome.  Successful completion of this project will exercise a student’s ability to understand the complex events leading to poverty in this country.  Participating in helping another get a better start in life will help to identify the diverse city in which we all live.  This project will introduce students to people who live in differing circumstances from themselves thereby expanding the students understanding of others and the world around them.

Guidelines for accomplishment of event

1. Visit the Habitat for Humanity site and select an event planned for your area.
2. Identify a construction project in your area and follow the guidelines on the web site to sign up as a volunteer.
1. This could involve participating in some orientation and additional time preparing for the day of construction.
3. Identify the following about your visit and include these concepts in your journal entry:
1. What is the purpose of the construction of a Habitat for Humanity house?
2. Under what circumstances would a person be eligible for a Habitat house?
3. What is the new owner’s role in the construction of the house? Why?
4. How will Habitat houses impact the neighborhoods in which they are constructed?
5. How will the finished house impact the new owners?
