SCC Competency addressed by event: Develop and communicate hypothetical explanations, predictions, and descriptions of human behavior within an historical, spatial, and/or social context.

Event experience Title: Fall Activity: GIS Day

Anticipated Learning Outcome.  Successful completion of this project will allow the student to gain a better understanding of how geographic principles affect our daily life.  Students will learn how technological advances have improved the ability to solve problems in virtually all aspects of our lives.

Guidelines for accomplishment of event

  1. Visit the GIS Day web site and search for an event planned for your area.
  2. Arrange to visit the site on GIS Day – usually held mid-November.
  3. Identify the following about your visit and include these concepts in your journal entry:
    1. Define GIS and explain how your selected site is using it;
    2. Describe the geographic problems your selected site is trying to solve;
    3. How does the GIS technology contribute to the solution of these problems;
