Multicultural/Valuing - Transformation of StoriesGeneral Education Capstone Course Event/Experience Details and Guideline Form Ed. Category Event should be listed under: Multicultural Valuing SCC Competency addressed by event: Consider multiple perspectives inherent in other cultures; recognize distinctive viewpoints and biases, deal with ambiguity, and articulate an informed position. Event experience Title: Transformation of Stories Watch two videos one of Pride and Prejudice, 2005; the other Bride and Prejudice, 2004. Anticipated Learning Outcome. By observing both films, students will be able to contrast two cultural interpretations of the same literary work, thus appreciating the impact of culture on artistic creation and expression. Guidelines for accomplishment of event Students will view an English version of Pride and Prejudice (2005) which is currently at the cinema. They will also view a “Bollywood” (Indian) version of the same text (available on video). They will write a 2-3 page journal entry using the following criteria. 1. Describe how the 2005 version of the Austen novel is translated/interpreted within the Indian Culture (Bollywood). 2. Describe the impact of the musical numbers on the Austen plot.
