Humanities - Center Stage PerformanceGeneral Education Capstone Course Event/Experience Details and Guideline Form Gen. Ed. Category Event should be listed under: Humanities SCC Competency addressed by event: Identify the typical criteria that are used for making informed judgments in various fields of the humanities. Articulate an informed response to popular or classical works in the humanities. Event experience Title: Attend a Centerstage performance of a live play Anticipated Learning Outcome: This project should assess the student's ability to display an understanding of the play's story, to articulate a personal response to the aspects of the theatre and how effectively they were used (such as actors, set, costumes, lights, props and sound) and to relate the worth of the experience to them and society. How does the play contribute to our culture and history? Guidelines for accomplishment of event The student will attend one of Centerstage's plays. After attending the play the student will write a journal entry of their impressions and interpretations. The student will discuss the three following areas in their paper: Understanding, Effectiveness and Ultimate Worth. Understanding refers to the story that was told and revealed through the play's action. Discuss the main events that make up the story and how it is resolved. Effectiveness refers to how well the story was told. Give examples of how the actors handled the characters. Give examples as to how the costumes, set, lights, sound, props and makeup assisted in the telling of story. Ultimate worth refers to what you took away with you. Did you gain a new perspective, an appreciation for performance, a new awareness? Did you learn something about people, yourself or the world that you did not know before? What? Give specific examples of what you learned from the experience.
