Event experience title:  Transformation of Stories

Anticipated learning outcome

By observing both films, students will be able to contrast two cultural interpretations of the same literary work, thus appreciating the impact of culture on artistic creation and expression.

Guidelines for accomplishment of event  

Watch two videos one of Pride and Prejudice, 2005; the other Bride and Prejudice, 2004. 

Students will view an English version of Pride and Prejudice (2005) which is currently at the cinema.  They will also view a "Bollywood" (Indian) version of the same text (available on video).   They will write a 2-3 page journal entry using the following criteria.

  1. Describe how the 2005 version of the Austen novel is translated/interpreted within the Indian Culture (Bollywood).
  2. Describe the impact of the musical numbers on the Austen plot.
