  2. Articulate an incormed response to popular culture. 
  3. Locate and evaluate the validity of information. (MI)

Event experience title: Discovering the basis for literary awards.

Anticipated learning outcome

Upon completion of this project, students will have learned what literary awards are given in various genres, how to locate the list of nominees/winners, who gives the award and the criteria they use.  They will choose a literary work and apply the award criteria as though they were a member of the judging panel. 

Guidelines for accomplishment of event

The website given below is a master list of literary awards given in both the United States and Great Britain for both individual works and a life's work.  It includes children's literature and some popular literary genres as well as general literary fiction awards.  The project is this.

  1. Choose an award category you find interesting.
  2. Discover the criteria used by the judges to give the award.
  3. Discover how judges are chosen.
  4. Choose a one work in the category you have researched and read that work.
  5. Write a review using the criteria you have discovered nominating (or rejecting) this work.
