Event/Experience Details and Guideline Form

Gen. Ed. category event should be listed under: Humanities

SCC competency addressed by event: Articulate a personal response to popular or classical works in the humanities.

Event experience title:  Art Exhibition, Artist's Lecture, Museum Visit

Anticipated learning outcome.  Project is designed to assess the student's ability to display an understanding and/or awareness of some of the following: our past, human cultures, human thought and emotion, human motives the values of different cultures and our own ever-changing culture.  It is expected that students should be able to draw parallels or identify diversity in what they are looking at (or hearing from a speaker) to what they are familiar with in their own lives and in our own society.

Guidelines for accomplishment of event
A detailed description of the artwork or the topic of the lecture.

  1. Some sort of format analysis of the subject, in the case of an artwork this would include size, shape, color, 2-D or 3-D, etc.  (In the case of a speaker this would most likely be tied to #1.)

  2. A thesis - a brief interpretation as to the possible meaning or purpose of the artwork (or topic of discussion), leaving out a judgment as whether or not they "like" what they experienced.  It should not be a research paper, but rather a response paper reflecting the student's own perceptions and opinions, and how they can relate the art or topic to themes as listed in the Anticipated Learning Outcomes by drawing parallels according to what they have learned in all of their humanities courses and what they experience every day.
