COMPUTER USAGE

Room Security
All computer classrooms are kept locked, except when in use or under the direct supervision of staff. Full-time faculty, DPS officers, Division Office Coordinators, and Network Administrators and Specialists have keys and will unlock the room for the first class. DPS checks rooms throughout the day and ensures that all computer classrooms are locked at the end of the evening.

Classroom Usage
Computer classrooms are assigned to specific departments for their use. Other departments that wish to use a computer lab need to schedule a room through their Division Office Coordinator. The Network personnel will determine whether the requested software is compatible with the computer equipment and will schedule installation if needed.

Network Management
Software applications to the network are arranged through the Academic Network Administrator. Such requests should be made at least two months in advance, so that the compatibility, licensure, and configuration issues can be arranged before the class is offered. Purchase of software is the responsibility of the Dean with input from the network specialist. Regular meetings are held with all disciplines involved with the network to ensure that one Department's needs do not infringe upon another's. This provides for as much academic freedom as possible without destroying the integrity of the network.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

If a person is seriously injured or becomes ill on campus, the community assistance 911 number should be called immediately. In any injury incident, whether or not it is an emergency, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) should be notified immediately (922-8545). An incident report should be filed with DPS in all cases of injury and emergency.

EVENING & SATURDAY COVERAGE

The Information Desk in the Administration (ADM) building atrium is staffed by an Evening Supervisor and an Assistant from 4:00pm - 9:00pm M-TH and 8:00am-12:00 noon Saturdays when classes are in session. These staff members are cross trained to accept payments, register students, give information, answer the switchboard, assist faculty with copying and locating AV equipment.

The Academic Building (ACA) is staffed by an Evening Supervisor located on first floor in the Corporate & Community Development office until 6:30 pm M-TH.

Instructional Media support is available until 10:00 p.m. M-TH and until 4:30 F. There is a professional staff member on duty in the Learning Resources Center at all times when the facility is open.

HOLIDAYS

Holidays observed by the College are listed in the Policies and Procedures.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

In the event of inclement weather, the College will make announcements on KMOX Radio (1120 AM), KWRE (730 AM), KFAV (99 FM) Radio, KSDK-TV Channel 5 and FOX-TV Channel 2. These announcements will be made from 5:30-7:00 a.m. for day classes and no later than 5:00 p.m. for evening classes (if bad weather develops during the day).

There are THREE possible early-morning announcements that may be made regarding whether classes are to be held:

1) Classes canceled--This means no classes will be held that day or evening.

2) Snow Schedule--This means classes do not begin until 10:00 a.m., but that the rest of the day and evening classes will be held. In the case of evening classes held at high schools in the area, the College classes will not meet if the schools themselves have announced they are closed.

3) College Closed--This means no classes and all offices are closed for that day or evening.

There will be days that the college is open and the local school districts will be closed since busses and children are involved.

Since weather and road conditions may vary over the area, each student should make the decision as to whether or not it is safe to travel on days of inclement weather, even though the College may be in session. However, the individual student will be responsible for securing the make-up material covered in assignments, presentations, or other materials distributed to the class on that day.

KEYS

Faculty may obtain keys to their offices, suites, and laboratories in their area through the Dean. All office suites, AV closets and instructional media areas are opened with the A-3 key. If you need any other keys, check with the Dean.

The buildings are locked if the College is closed. If access to the buildings is needed, contact the Department of Public Safety in the Campus Services Building (ext. 8545) to let you in. A College identification card is needed for verification.

LOST AND FOUND

Items found on campus should be turned in to the Public Safety office located in the Campus Services building. Usually, items will only be kept for 30 days.

PARKING REGULATIONS & PHOTO ID

All faculty members are expected to observe the parking regulations established by the College. Parking stickers and photo identification cards may be obtained from the Department of Public Safety in the Campus Services Building. Parking and traffic regulations are distributed with the parking stickers.

PROTECTION OF COLLEGE PROPERTY

The College solicits the help of faculty in protecting College property from vandalism, negligence, and theft. Normal wear from use is anticipated. Any suspicious situation at the College should be reported immediately to the Department of Public Safety or to the College switchboard operator.

SALE OF COMMODITIES ON CAMPUS

No commodities may be sold on campus by any individual or group not part of the College, except through regularly approved distribution channels, e.g., the College Bookstore or the food service facility, unless specific approval has been granted by the President of the College.

SCHEDULING OF CLASSROOMS

Each class is assigned a classroom based on department and course needs. There may be times, however, when circumstances warrant a change, either permanent or temporary. When a room change is requested, please contact the Scheduling Coordinator as far in advance as possible.

SMOKING AND EATING IN CLASSROOMS/LABORATORIES

The College prohibits smoking in all buildings. Eating and drinking in classrooms should be done with care to protect the building and to maintain safe, clean premises. Faculty are expected to see that this policy is implemented.
