BAS/CPT 103 Microcomputer Applications
Online Course: Spring 2008
Dear Student,
Welcome to St. Charles Community College and “Microcomputer
Applications”. This course will introduce you to computer
use through the Microsoft Office applications. After this class,
you should be able to create flyers and letters, develop financial
spreadsheets, make presentations, form a database and query information
contained in it.
The online option of this course is designed to give you a great
deal of time and place flexibility. It does require a self-discipline
on your part to do the required work without having scheduled
classes. The objectives and assignments are the same as its on
campus counterparts. Keyboarding skills are needed to be successful
in this class. If you cannot touch type, you may want to consider
taking a class in keyboarding before this one.
We will use the computer and Internet for most of our interaction
and exchanges so you will need a computer able to access the Internet.
You will also need Microsoft Office 2007 Professional which can
be purchased from the SCC bookstore with academic pricing. Purchasing
from the SCC bookstore will be your least cost option for obtaining
the software. It is required that you use Office 2007 Professional
for this class.
I will review course requirements at the mandatory
orientation session. The computer lab in the Technology Center
at St. Charles also has the necessary software and hardware to
complete this course. It is strongly suggested you attend the
following course orientation session to receive important course
instructions.
If you cannot attend the session, you must contact me to make
alternate arrangements.
You will also have to attend three mandatory on campus exams.
The dates and times are listed below.
Orientation:
Saturday, January 12 – TECH 108 – 10 a.m.
Exam 1:
Friday, March 14 – TECH 108 – 7 p.m.
Exam 2:
Friday, May 2 – TECH 108 – 7 p.m.
Final:
Friday, May 9 – TECH 108 – 7 p.m.
You may order the text for the class from the bookstore either
in person, by telephone, or online via computer: www.stchas.edu/bookstore..
WebCT courses will not be available to students until 5 working
days prior to the start of the semester.
We will go over how to use the Internet for this course at the
orientation session. If you have ANY questions,
write them down, and we will answer them at the orientation session.
I look forward to working with you.
