What types of distance learning courses are offered?
- Online classes (N) use materials on the WebCT/Blackboard Web site and
e-mail for communication. E-mail and Internet experience is assumed.
- Telecourses (T) use DVDs/videos available for viewing in the SCC Library and may be available to check-out.
- Teleweb courses (W) add Internet activities to the video programming of telecourses. Students need access to the Internet and experience with e-mail and the Internet.
- A hybrid course is a blend of on-campus and online study in a single course. This course does not have any special letter following the course designation. Experience with e-mail and Internet is assumed.
What is in the critical information letter?
This letter varies from course to course. Some of the information provided includes how to contact the instructor, orientation requirements, and required materials.

Students receive critical information from St. Charles Community College. In order to receive your CougarMail visit http://www.stchas.edu/help/StudentEmail.shtml for information on how to activate your account.

How soon can I access my WebCT/Blackboard?
WebCT/Blackboard courses will not be available to students until five working days prior to the start of the semester.

Are distance learning videos closed-captioned?
- Dallas Telelearning
Video DVD sets from Dallas Telelearning include closed-captioning, but DVDs need to be played on a computer that has a DVD player.
- Intelecom
Once you are playing a clip in the video player you will see a button labeled CC. Click the CC button to turn closed captions on or off.
