Additional Information

Becky Thorn, soprano, is the conductor of SCC Singers, the community choral group on campus, as well as the co-director of the SCC Opera Workshop.  She has taught in the SCC Music Department since 2000, occasionally teaching as an adjunct with Webster University, as well.  She has taught Music Appreciation, Foundations of Music and Music History.  Becky is also a private voice instructor.

As an undergrad, she was selected as the Student Fellow in Music History and “Outstanding Music Graduate 2000” at Missouri Baptist College. She received her bachelor of arts with honors (summa cum laude), double-majoring in music education and vocal performance. Her theatrical stage credits there include Maria in West Side Story, Fiona in Brigadoon, Denise in Smoke on the Mountain, and Laeticia in Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief. She also appeared numerous times as a featured soloist for MBU choral concerts, including performances of Bach’s Magnificat, Christ lag in Todes Banden, and Handel’s Messiah.  In 2012, she made a guest appearance on her alma mater stage as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

Becky earned her master's degree in music with a vocal pedagogy emphasis from Webster University, where she has since completed post-graduate continued education in vocal pedagogy.  She was the first female to receive their coveted graduate assistantship in music theory and the only graduate in her class to be selected for Distinction in music.   She performed with the Webster Choral Society, as well as with the Opera Studio, singing the roles of Manon in Massenet’s Manon and Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel.

In 2010, she formed a female quartet, Evidence Sings (www.evidencesings.com), which performs throughout the midwest region at churches, community events and charity functions.  Becky acted as music producer for their recording project, “New Heart Coming,” co-writing the title track and three other songs on the album.  Her original compositions have won competitions within St. Louis Songwriters Group and other song-writing workshops.  She participates in local music ministry and has three children.
