Pharmacy Technician (PMT 100-41)

This 12-week course, taught by a registered pharmacist, provides the classroom instruction necessary to be a successful Pharmacy Technician in the state of Missouri. The course teaches prescription processing, drug classifications, physiology, drug interactions, pharmacy calculations, medical terminology and compounding.  The pharmacy technician is qualified for employment in retail pharmacies, hospitals, long term care pharmacies and through other licensed prescription vendors.

Course Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years old.
  • Documentation of a high school diploma or GED certificate (due at time of registration).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. May sign up for English as a Second Language (ESL) offered at SCC free of charge.
  • Possess keyboarding skills.
  • Possess strong basic math skills.
  • Mastery of the course objectives.
  • A passing grade on the written final examination.

The textbook is required and available in the SCC Bookstore.

Note: Graduates will receive a certificate of completion from SCC and are eligible to apply for either national certification exam: PTCB or ExCPT.
