Medical Coding (MCDG 100)

This AHIMA approved online program for Medical Coding is a comprehensive curriculum designed specifically to train individuals for entry-level certification and employment as medical coders in hospitals, clinics, physician offices and coding companies.

The content is available for one calendar year from the date of activation and can be completed by the average student in 12-15 hours/week.

All necessary reference materials are included in the cost of the program. The online program utilizes web-based instruction to provide students with practical experience while learning inpatient and outpatient medical coding and billing. Competency-based learning is enhanced through this virtual classroom using automatic grading, interactive graphics, dynamic flash cards, modern encoder practice and an extensive practicum. These features save the student time and enhance the learning experience.

Upon completion of the program the student is eligible to take a national certification exam (St. Charles Community College does not offer these certification exams). National certification is issued by third-party organizations and industry governing bodies. Students are prepared to sit for the CCA (offered by AHIMA) or the CPC (offered by AAPC). Additional information on these certifications can be found by contacting these agencies.
