Guidelines for accomplishment of event:
Attend a local or campus event related to mental illness. There are many different seminar-type events on campus such as Suicide Awareness events; speakers from the National Alliance on Mental Illness, etc. NAMI representatives come to campus once a year to present personal accounts of struggles with mental illness. Research what the community offers through hospitals and mental health organizations and attend a lecture.
Write a minimum four-page summary and critical analysis of what you heard, understood, and learned from the experience. Research the specific topic and explain current medical advances. lingering social stigmas related to the illness, emotional and physical tolls taken on within a family dealing with the illness, etc.
