After watching the above video, make a historical investigation to find out more about Birmingham during the late 1950s and early 1960s. You should start your investigation by reviewing some of the primary documents stored in the digital archives of the Birmingham Public Library (http://www.bplonline.org/resources/digital_project/SixteenthStBaptistBomb.asp) or other libraries.
In a two-page paper, respond to the following questions:
- What were the repercussions for those who stood up for social justice?
- How does what you have learned relate to the present and the future? Give two specific examples of current social issues where individuals are called upon to stand up for what they believe.
- Discuss at least one question this activity raised for you?
