As part of the St. Charles Community College International Film Series, David Cirillo will host a screening of award-winning director Nuri Bilge Celan’s film, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. A guest speaker will offer brief information about an upcoming group study trip to Turkey.
This film is a detective fiction set in Anatolia, Turkey. Director Nuri Bilge Ceylan won Best Director at Cannes in 2008. He accepted the award by saying, "I dedicate this award to my beautiful and lonely country, which I love passionately." Like his other films, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia utilizes photographic shots of the starkly beautiful Anatolian steppes. The existential storyline pulls audiences in with the complex and messy pursuit of answers to questions about the randomness of life.
This International Education Week event is free and open to the public. Free popcorn will be provided by the International Club, and beverages will be available for purchase.
Hosted by Virginia Guneyli, associate professor of English and literature. Co-sponsored by the Global Education and Multicultural Programming Committee.
