2011 Season Wrap Up

In only their third season of intercollegiate play, the St. Charles Community College men's soccer team named 4 players to First-Team and Second-Team All-Region XVI of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The men's team named an additional six players to First-Team and Second-Team All-MCCAC (Midwest Community College Athletic Conference).  Sophomore midfielders Robbie Bajier and Bryan Powers both received First-Team All-Region.  Bajier was also named First-Team All-MCCAC and Powers was named Second-Team All-MCCAC.

Freshman forward Conor Leach and sophomore goalkeeper Austin Haywood both earned Second-Team All-Region.  Leach was also named First-Team All-MCCAC and Haywood was named Second-Team All-MCCAC.

The sophomore defensemen also claimed a couple awards, including First-Team All-MCCAC honoree Robert Wright and Second-Team All-MCCAC member Matt Jung.

The men's team finished the 2011 season with their best record yet at 12-5-1, with 3-0-1 finish in the conference.  The Cougars were ranked third in Region XVI and won their first regional game 1-0 against Metropolitan Community College (MCC)-Blue River, the team they lost to in last year's Region XVI championship game.  They moved on to the semi-final match against Jefferson College and lost 1-2.

SCC beat local rival St. Louis Community College on two occasions, including a 3-2 overtime thriller.  The Cougars also notched a victory over perennial power Lewis & Clark Community College for the second consecutive season.

"We had the best record in the program's history, " said Tom Kearns, men's head coach."I'm proud of what this team accomplished.  The program continues to build each and every year.  I look forward to a very successful 2012 season."
