Adult Education & Literacy

SCC coordinates a free Adult Education program to help people improve their academic skills, prepare for their High School Equivalency tests, and to assist non-native speakers in gaining English proficiency. 

ELIGIBILITY: To register, students must be at least 17 years old, not enrolled in high school, must have a Missouri address, and must not be in the U.S. on an F-1 (student) Visa.

PLEASE NOTE: Children are not permitted in Adult Education registration or class sessions.

English as a Second Language

Our free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes help non-native speakers improve English skills in reading, writing, speaking and understanding (listening), with a special focus on conversational skills for home and workplace literacy. We also offer specialty classes in TOEFL, citizenship, pronunciation and writing. Students from beginner to advanced levels will find classes to help them improve their English skills. Learn more about ESL classes, or call 636-922-8411. 

High School Equivalency

Our free High School Equivalency (HSE) classes teach basic reading, math and writing skills to prepare people to take the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET or GED) or to improve basic academic skills for college readiness or career advancement. Free day and evening classes are available.

PLEASE NOTE: Missouri now offers both the HiSET and the GED as approved tests of high school equivalency. For information and a comparison of the two tests, visit www.hse.mo.gov.

Volunteer!

Would you like to help high school equivalency students with basic reading, writing and math skills? You CAN Do College Math!

Are you struggling to test into MAT 096 and beyond? Our FREE math program will help you move up the math ladder with a hands-on, personalized class designed to help you overcome obstacles that have kept you from succeeding in the past. Classes meet two afternoons per week. Learn more HERE.

Integrated Education & Training

Integrated Education & Training provides an opportunity for students to remediate language and/or math skills while preparing to earn an industry credential that is valid in the workplace. Students must enroll in the Adult Education & Literacy program to be eligible. We currently offer a logistics program where students can earn Certified Logistics Associate and Certified Logistics Technician credentials. Find more information on our ESL or HSE pages.
