Summer 2013
Hello Stress Management Class-N,
Welcome to the Summer 2013 semester at St. Charles Community College! I am excited to have you all in class. We will explore the nature of stress as well as actively engage in a variety of techniques to manage and reduce stress.
We will use the textbook and accompanying workbook throughout the semester so it is important you purchase these two books:
The syllabus and tentative schedule will be emailed to you just before the start of the semester. This will help update you on the requirements of the class. In general, assignments will be open for a two-week period. Each period, students will complete online discussions, reflections and an activity. There are also three open book exams throughout the semester. We will culminate the semester with a final reflection essay (this is the final exam).
I encourage you all to start early on assignments and not wait until the last minute to submit the assignments through Moodle. This will ensure you do not have any technical difficulties and will allow you time to contact the instructor and the help desk. If you have technical problems, call the SCC student help desk phone number at 636-922-8555 or email them at scchelpdesk@stchas.edu, as well as email me about any technical issues.
Also, be sure to SAVE all of your work! I suggest you type all assignments and discussion postings/reflections in a Word document first, save it, then “copy and paste” it into Moodle. That way, you always have a copy of your assignment that you can email me if necessary.
There is a learning curve the first couple of weeks in navigating the class, but things will go well for you once you get used to the routines of the class. Most students enjoy the convenience of learning at home and learn a lot of things about managing stress in today's world and in your personal and professional lives.
Many students comment that stress management is an interesting class and they learned a lot. How much you learn is ultimately up to you and how much you put into the class! Use all the resources you have available to you and you will benefit greatly (i.e. textbook, workbook, chapter summaries, tests and class discussions). Do your best, have fun and enjoy the process!
