CDV-600-HN1 Online Dosage Calculations

Spring 2013

Dear Online Dosage Calculation  Student,

Please read this letter carefully. Welcome to St. Charles Community College and online "Dosage Calculation". This course is designed to prepare you for the Dosage Calculations test required for admission to the SCC nursing programs. This class is designed to give you flexibility, but will require approximately the same amount or more of a time commitment as the classroom section. Online Dosage Calculations a fast paced, instructor paced class. Students may not set individual class paces and will have assignment deadlines.

MANDATORY SKILLS FOR ONLINE DOSAGE CALCULATION INCLUDE:

  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fraction/decimal conversion)
  • Current knowledge of how to use e-mail
  • Current knowledge of how to send an e-mail attachment
  • Current knowledge of how to access and use the Internet
  • Excellent reading and comprehension skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • A high level of self-discipline
  • Access to MS Word or reader software
  • Access to Adobe or Adobe reader software
  • Good time management skills

Please note: No computer, reading or basic math or English language skills will be taught in online Dosage Calculation. If you do not currently have the above listed skills, you will probably struggle significantly in Dosage Calculation online and may wish to consider taking Dosage Calculation during one of the classroom sections instead or taking a class that will teach you the necessary basic math, reading, comprehension or computer skills needed and then enrolling in online Dosage Calculation after completing that class. We will use the Internet for interaction and exchanges, so you will need access to a computer with access to the Internet (sometimes for several hours at a time) available for your use. (As well as access to a backup computer if your primary computer “crashes”). There are computers for student use available on the SCC campus. There are weekly assignments beginning the first week of the class. It will be necessary for you to access the class at least twice a week, every week, beginning the first week.

Make sure that you have purchased the correct book. Please see the SCC Bookstore Web site for further information at http://www.stchas.edu/bookstore. If you have any questions about your text book purchase, ask a bookstore employee for assistance. The course number is CDV 600-HN1.
