COL-299-N1/N2 Sophomore Portfolio Assessment

Spring 2013

Dear Online Sophomore Portfolio, Capstone, Student,

Welcome to the Spring 2013 semester.

This is a pass/fail course, however, in order to be successful, pass, you will want to read this carefully and follow all guidelines. This course is called the Sophomore Portfolio course or simply Capstone! Log on to Moodle by January 22, 2013 and click on this course.

You will be attending or participating in three EVENTS or activities which are outlined on the SCC website. You will write one journal-type essay for each of the events which are fairly brief, 1.5-2 pages typed and double spaced.

You will also write a research paper that is 5-7 pages typed based on one of your three journal entries. It is an elaboration so to speak.

Lastly, you will write a reflection paper based on your experiences thus far at SCC and your chosen course of study.

A special note here: This course is not about learning new information and I will not be teaching you anything. My role is to facilitate the process of guiding through the capstone course and “motivating” you to be on pace to complete it successfully.

The purpose of the course is for independent demonstration that you have the skills to manage information and engage in higher order thinking. You will then develop a portfolio of the materials described above as evidence of your ability to do this work independently. This is a self-paced course. I will only give you guidelines of where you should be at various points in the semester, but nothing will be turned in until the very end of the semester.

If you have problems with the login, passwords, or technology for the course, contact the Technical Support staff (636-922-8555).  You will be required to post the assignments on Turnitin, the anti-plagiarism software. Turnitin comes with Moodle and is free.

Please click on the link below and take the short quiz to assist you in understanding how well  suited you may or may not be for online education.
