Distance Learning Class Critical Information

CPT-121-N1 Basics of Data Communications

Spring 2013

Dear Student:

Welcome to Data Communications! This course will cover advanced wired and wireless technologies, basic computer networking, telecommunications, and the convergence of TV, radio, telephones, and computers. Also included is a large segment on computer security.

The online nature of this course is designed to give you a great deal of time and place flexibility in taking this course. It does require a great deal of self-discipline on your part to do the required work without having scheduled classes. We will use the computer and Internet for most of our interaction and exchanges, so you will need a computer able to access the Internet throughout the semester. I will always be available for a face-to-face meeting, if we decide one is necessary.

If you know how to use WebCT, please contact me as soon as you are able to log into the course (via WebCT email). If you do not know how to use WebCT, please call or email me sheckel@stchas.edu before the first week of classes in order to be sure you know how to access and navigate WebCT, the online software.

You may order the text for the class from the bookstore either in person, by telephone, or online via computer: www.stchas.edu/bookstore. Bookstore hours (as well as Library hours) are listed on the school’s website.
