Distance Learning Class Critical Information

EDU-220-N2 Technology for Teachers

Spring 2013

Dear Student,

Welcome to the online edition of EDU-220, Technology for Teachers, at St. Charles Community College. The course is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of the utilization of technology as a tool to facilitate and improve instruction in today’s K-12 classrooms.

We will examine, among other things, instructional design and planning, learning theory, hardware and software currently available to assist classroom instruction, distance learning technologies, the legal and ethical issues, and technology standards influencing American education today. The course should be of assistance to students who are preparing for a career as a teacher, as well as those simply investigating education as a possible major.

The course is formatted in a sequential, self-paced manner. Content is provided in a series of units consisting of several related chapters/topics. Each unit will have a due date for the completion of all the activities contained therein. You may complete the activities within each unit in any order you choose, just make sure that you stay within the time frame. You may “work ahead” as much or as little as you wish. Hopefully this will provide freedom for you and structure to insure successful course completion.

You will need the use of a computer, Internet access (high speed to view video resources from the text) and the text book. All activities for the course will be coordinated through Moodle. We will meet as a class once during the semester:

YOUR ATTENDANCE IS EXPECTED AT THE FOLLOWING MEETING:

8-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in TECH 216  for Orientation.

You may pick up a copy of the text from the bookstore either in person, by phone or online at www.stchas.edu/bookstore. This may be purchased over the Internet if you elect to purchase your text from a source other than the campus bookstore.
