BIO 095 Important Information – Summer 2013
Welcome to Foundations in Science for Health Careers (BIO 095).
This is a completely online course and will not have a scheduled face-to-face orientation meeting or exam for the whole class. Instead, you will have an online Orientation presentation. Your tests and final exam will be completely online—you will not have to come to the SCC campus at all.
This course is a “refresher” course for students who are preparing to enter Anatomy & Physiology 1 (BIO 240, also known as A&P 1). Although BIO 095 is a PASS/FAIL COURSE that does not confer academic degree credit, it does satisfy the prerequisite requirements for BIO 240 for people who have prior learning in basic biological concepts. If you do NOT have such prior experience or training, then you will NOT succeed in this course, and should immediately arrange to talk to someone in Student Advising about alternative options.
To a large extent, this course is a self-paced and self-directed course. You may enter the course anytime within the first week of any term (semester or special session) in which it is offered. You may finish the course any time after the midterm (half-way) point of any semester or session in which it is offered.
After you have completed the online orientation, you will complete several learning modules in Moodle (our computerized learning/testing platform). These will be completed at your own pace on a schedule convenient to you. Each module contains a review of the content and an online test to demonstrate your mastery of the content. When you master the first module, the second module will be released and you can work on it until mastered. Thus you will move from module to module as you master each one, until you are finally ready to take the Final Exam.
The Final Exam for the course must be taken online BEFORE the end date/time of the course. If you fail to complete and master the Final Exam by the end of the semester, you will fail the course. Details about the Final Exam are found within the course.
