COL-299-N3 Sophomore Portfolio Assessment

Spring 2013

Welcome to my online version of the Capstone Course/Sophomore Portfolio Assessment for Spring 2013 (COL-299-N3). This course is required for students wishing to complete the AA transfer degree or the 42-hour general education transfer block.

This specific course is a pilot of a new capstone course being developed, so it differs from the guidelines posted on the Capstone website. However, some of the course content is the same. For example, throughout the semester students will complete activities from three different areas (multicultural/valuing, humanities, social sciences) and journal their experiences. The difference in this course is that students will be required to conduct research for each of these events instead of writing a separate research paper. At the end of the course, students will turn in a final portfolio of all their work from the semester (three researched activities) in addition to a final reflection piece.

This course requires the use of SCC’s online learning platform called Moodle: https://moodle.stchas.edu/. Moodle access will be available to students beginning January 22. If you have problems with the login, passwords or technology for the course, contact the Technical Support staff at 636-922-8555.

Please click on the link below and take the quiz to learn how well you are suited for online education.  (Points are given for completing this quiz.)

The online version of this course requires students to manage their time wisely. Most people are successful at this course; however, the students who are not successful are the ones that put it off to the last minute. The final version of your portfolio is not due until the end of the semester, but I have built in due dates for each item. You need to log in to Moodle at least twice each week – this serves as your “attendance” in the course.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. For class, we will use the email feature on Moodle. In the meantime, you may contact me at cgant@stchas.edu.

I look forward to our class together!
