Distance Learning Class Critical Information

MUS-111-N2 Music Appreciation

Spring 2013

Dear Online Music Appreciation Students,

My name is Matthew Sides and I will be your guide through Music Appreciation, MUS 111-N2. This is a semester online course and provides a unique opportunity for your introduction to the world of music through the advantages of modern technology. The course covers the basic concepts of music and music history from the Middle Ages through the 20th century.

Please register for the class within the first week of the semester to avoid complications.

We do not have an orientation for this course.  I will send out an email that gives you information about how the course operates.  This will be through your campus email, so it is important that you check you campus email regularly as this is my main source of contact to you.

It is extremely important that you purchase the course materials before the first day of class, Jan. 22.  For this course you need "OnMusic" by Connect 4 Education. All the materials you need are in one CD package.  There is no textbook.  If for some reason you are unable to purchase it before the first day of classes, email me to let me know.  OnMusic is available at the SCC Bookstore, in person, online at www.stchas.edu/bookstore or order by phone at 636-922-8448. You may pay by VISA, MC or Discover.

You will have until Feb. 19 to register for this course through Connect 4 Education.  After that date, registration will be closed and you will not be able to participate in the course.  I will provide all necessary links on our Moodle page.

You will need to know how to use a computer. You need:

  • A PC or Macintosh computer.
  • An email account.
  • Access to the Internet.

Your computer must have the following minimum requirements:

  • PC or Macintosh computer at 120 Mhz (or faster).
